WHY IT MATTERS
Defensive reads win rallies. In our Sacramento small-group clinics (max 4 athletes), we train server/hitter cues, early seam-priority calls, and disciplined pursuit lanes—so more digs turn into transition points.
TECHNIQUE (ON-COURT CUES)
Server cues: toss height, approach speed, contact point → predict float/topspin & zones.
Seam priority: read ball flight + hitter approach; call left/right/mine before contact.
Angles: set the platform to the line of force; finish to target—no rock-back.
Pursuit lanes: MB owns deep seam; wings chase outside-in; libero directs traffic.
Finish: recover forward and call the next touch.
COMMON MISTAKES WE FIX
Spray from a moving platform • Late/soft seam calls • Over-shuffling vs one decisive step & hold • No lane discipline on tips/deflections.
GROUP DRILLS (MAX 4 ATHLETES)
Read → Call → Dig — random serves; athletes announce seam priority before contact, then dig.
Three-Lane Pursuit — coach tips/rolls; assign lanes; dig to target or pursue off-court with control.
Pressure Ladder 1→6 — random serves/hits; string 6 perfect digs in order (1–6). Miss = back one zone.
CLINIC FORMAT & COHORTS
Length 60–75 min • Max 4 athletes • 5-session blocks (Fri/weekend options) • NCVA if venue requires • No trials.
